ARF supports the dog friendly, reward based training methods scientifically proven to be the most efficient and effective as opposed to the aversive training methods & dominance ideology made popular on current television shows. Please take a minute to review our full position statement, get some training tips and see a list of recommended training resources including Dr. Ian Dunbar's free e-book Before You Get Your Puppy.
Meet some of our available dogs each Saturday from 1-3 pm at the Chinook PetSmart. Check this page on Fridays to see which pups will be attending!
Puppy Preview
ARF's been busy again! Here's a sneak peek of some of our newest puppies currently in foster care. These pups are still too young to start looking for their furever homes but should be ready for adoption over the next few weeks.
Please note: Applications are not currently being accepted for these puppies.
3802F: Zoey
A Heinz 57.
This beautiful girl is still available for adoptation, and no one at ARF can quite understand why!
If you have been keeping up with Zoey's progress, you'll know she's doing great! And if you've been to PetSmart, chances are you couldn't resist coming to say "Hello". In amidst of all the commotion, smells, and people at PetSmart, you will find Zoey lazing around, just watching the people come and go. She doesn't bother much with the puppies barking or kids running around, but she does love it when you stop by to meet her. The only time you will see much action out of her at this time, is if her foster mom wanders too far out of sight.
When Zoey first came into ARF's care, she was very wary of everything, in 4 quick months she sure has gotten comfortable with city life and we've seen her personality shine through. Unless she's getting ready to go on a daily walk or car ride, Zoey doesn't make much fuss. She's too busy lounging in her favorite spot on the couch or in her crate. Mind you, when it's walk time she let's you know, and Zoey never forgets when walk time is!
Because we want what's best for Zoey, ARF would prefer she went to a home that has some dog experience and no young kids, as she can be leash reactive while walking, and a bit nervous around younger kids.
There is so much more to tell you about Zoey, so come to PetSmart to meet her and learn why she's such a wonderful dog! Or if you have already met her and know how great she is, what are you waiting for? Fill out an application today!

3811F: Hannah
A Black & White Lady.
Hannah is a big sweet gentle giant. She has been with ARF for a few months. She is still learning the basics on how to be a dog. She is still nervous around people but getting better every day. She is more nervous around men and strangers, this causes her to scurry out of the room and lie in her kennel. Even though she does this she still comes out to see what is going on, and will keep coming out . She has not shown any aggression towards other dogs small or large, hasn’t met any cats and has only met a few kids at PetSmart, where she seemed not to mind them. If she isn’t relaxing in her kennel she is usually on a bed in the living room. She likes to be around her foster family a lot. Hannah is getting to be very good on leash. She goes at her own pace and gets startled by vehicles. She doesn’t know how to play yet and has shown no interest in toys. She will take treats but won't come for them. She does get excited when her foster brothers get excited and play fetch in the back yard but she doesn’t join in on the fun yet. She is very calm and would need to go to a home that understands she has to filled with confidence and things with her need to be taken slowly.

3840M: Ryley
A Black & Tan.
Hi! My name is Ryley. I have heard my foster family talking about me and this is what my foster mommy says: I am a sweet, fun-loving, energetic little guy who loves being around people, children, and playing with other canine pals. I get along well with the two big dogs that live with my foster family, and I also love going for walks & am great on the leash. They also think it's cute how I sit at their feet while they are doing the dishes or making a cup of tea. They are pleased with my house training although I still have a little way to go. Sometimes I have the odd accident if I don’t get put out on time, but just remember that I’m still just a little guy. My foster mom says that I’m a smart little fellow & the rest will come. So if I sound like a perfect companion for you, hurry because I can't hardly wait for my fur-ever family & home.

3841M: Takoda
A Genuine Crossbreed.
Hi everyone! My name is Takoda (Sioux for "friend to everyone"). I am a fluffy ball of love! I love everyone! I love my foster family dog, my toys, being outside, the cats (although I get the feeling my love is not mutual), kids, and just life in general. When I'm not playing or sleeping or loving everything I am pretty laid back. Everyone tells me I'm gonna be a big dog. I say I'm gonna be a big "loving" dog! I am well on my way to learning to do my business outside. I sleep in the kennel with my sister and don't wake up until I hear my foster family getting up. I know you'll think this strange, but I already love my furever home even though I haven't met them yet!

3842F: Sooki
A Genuine Crossbreed.
Hi my name is Sooki (a take on the Algonquin word for black "Sucki"). I am a very pretty little pup and smart to boot! I can be a bit shy when I meet someone new but I "love big" once I know you. I really enjoy sleeping on the couch when my foster family is watching tv (I'm a good cuddler). I'm no couch potato though cause I run like the wind outside with my brother and foster family dog. I keep a wide berth from the cats in the house because they make funny hissing sounds. I play well with other dogs and my foster family. I am a quick learner and housebreaking is coming along. My brother and I settle well at bedtime in our kennel and sleep through the night. I think I would be suited to just about any kind of household cause I'm used to a lot of action and foster family going ons. To know me is to love me!

3849M: Gulliver (a.k.a. Einstein)
A Black & White Pup.
Gulliver or Gully is a soft spoken little guy. He rarely makes a peep and is gentle and polite in his approach to both people and other animals. He tends to be a little more on the timid side and his first instinct is to flee the scene of something new. With a little patience and calm guidance, Gulliver quickly learns that new sounds and sights are ok. He is fitting in nicely with our two dogs and cats. He is also very gentle with our two children ages 4.5 and 14 months. Although Gulliver would fit into any family setting he would benefit from someone who would be willing to work on exposing him to new sights and sounds as well as socializing him well because of his more timid nature. Gulliver is learning to like his crate and is doing fabulously with house training. If you are looking for a fun, gentle soul to add to your family please consider Gulliver.

Theodore if you please… actually I prefer Teddy!! I'm ten months old with a gregarious personality. I'm crate trained and sleep right through the night. I'm good with children and enjoy a good cuddle before bedtime. I will give you unconditional love for years to come... come and see me!!

3855M: Oliver
An ARF Special.
Hi!!!!! My name is Oliver and yes I know what you are thinking! You think I'm cute and a little handsome?! I live with my sister Olivia with our new foster parents and I'm new to this whole living with foster people but it seems pretty cool because when my sister and I arrived they had toys, crate, blankets and treats ready for us. I'm not used to this great lifestyle but I'm sure getting used to it quick even after the first night! All the toys were outside my crate in the x-pen but I would rather take them into my crate when nobody is looking and sometimes my sister and I will have a disagreement on who gets what toy. As I said earlier that I am just settling into my foster home and still a bit shy and I just need some love and patience and I will get use to these big humans as I know they want what is best for me!! I love my crate and will go and sleep in there as I know its safe and I sleep through the night and you won't hear a peep from me!
Now I bet I know what you are thinking now? You must be wondering if I know any tricks?? Not yet but I will be learning the basics very soon and I'm trying my best to do my business outside so stay tuned for updates. I have been given a second chance at life thanks to these great people at ARF and with the right forever home who will love me, be patient with me and of course treat me. In return I will give back soooooooo much!!! Gotta go now because I think my sister is taking my toy from my crate.

3856F: Olivia
An ARF Special.
Olivia is my name and pleased to meet you! Aren't I a pretty girl?!?! My foster dad thinks I'm great in front of the camera as I actually know how to sit still unlike my brother Oliver who thinks the camera is a toy! Foster dad also thinks I'm such a cutie and thinks many people will fall in love with me when they meet me. I'm still very shy and this whole thing with having a nice warm blanket and toys and just living in a house is still a bit strange and also I get fed treats all the time! My foster parents talk this funny language and then they look at me and I get treats! I haven't really figured out why but my brother Oliver tells me they are trying to teach us some tricks and good manners like letting them know when we need to go outside to do our business so we are learning proper bathroom etiquette. As I told you I'm very shy and unsure of my surroundings so best place for me is my nice comfy and warm crate so you will see me inside there watching the world go by. I just need some time to adjust to my new surroundings along with these nice humans that live with my brother and I so that will be interesting to see! I'm slowly learning all the new sounds in the house like the TV, microwave and doors opening and closing. The TV is very interesting to me as the noise changes sometimes from talking to music to talking, I don't get it!
I'm definitely not used to the leash yet but I do have a nice hot pink collar!
I will need a forever home who will be very patient with me, love me and help me be less shy and I'm not sure if I'm good with kids yet as sometimes they can be very loud and all the sudden movements kinda scare me so perhaps older kids would be better suited for me.
Gotta run here so check back on me for updates ok?!?!

3858M: Bear
An ARF Special.
Hi, my name is Bear. I’m not really sure why I was named Bear... maybe it’s because my cinnamon brown fur makes me look like a little bear. Couldn’t be because I’m just a big softie that loves to be cuddled like a teddy bear...nah. I sure am enjoying my foster home. I get tonnes of love, lots of exercise, and more food than I’ve ever seen in my life! I hate to brag, but I think I’m pretty smart too. I learned how to sit after the second try and I’m sure it had nothing to do with the delicious treats in my foster Dad’s hand. I’m a happy guy as long as someone’s around. I sit quietly in my kennel overnight and you wouldn’t even know I was in there, if my tail wagging didn’t give me away from time to time! I’m learning how to go for walks too...who knew there were so many new smells out there?! I think I’m going to enjoy walking a lot...especially because everyone I meet things I’m such a great pup!! For now, nothing makes me happier than some ear scratches, a good belly rub and some rawhide chews for me to nibble on. Life is good.

3859F: Willow
An ARF Special.
Willow is a super sweet cuddle bug. She loves to snuggle with anyone willing to give her hugs. Although don’t let her sweetness fool you, because Willow has a feisty side to her! She is a playful girl looking to have a lot of fun, when nap time is over. She has lots of energy when she’s playing, although she quiets down quite nicely after playtime. She loves other dogs, and does well with children too, so most homes would suit Willow.
She is timid in new situations, and plays cautious until she has figured out the situation… but it doesn’t take her long at all to warm up!
Willow currently sleeps through the night in her kennel with her sister. She can make it through the entire night without asking to go out.
Willow will be a wonderful addition to an active home.

3860F: Maci
An ARF Special.
Maci is a super adventurous girl, who’s always looking to explore her surroundings. She’s a sweet girl who adores being in the same room as her parents. If you leave the room, she can’t wait for you to return! If permitted, she loves to tag along to wherever you are going. She loves her humans!! She gets along well with both kids and other dogs. She walks well on the leash and is not leash shy, although training will help her to further develop her walking/healing skills. Maci is a pretty easy going dog, and adjusts easily to new situations, and will most certainly do well in a home with, or without, children or pets. An active family would benefit Maci as she does require daily walks. Her easy going attitude will make her a wonderful family member. Maci currently sleeps through the night in a kennel with her sister. She can make it for the whole night without asking to go out. She would make a perfect addition to any active family!

3862M: Rusty
An ARF Special.
Hi I'm Rusty.
I'm a Rusty Red colored guy, I guess that's why my foster mom called me Rusty. She says I have beautiful markings and look like a little fox. I am a mischievous guy. I like to snatch up socks and shoes and run away fast cause I know it makes my foster mom chase me. I am a very energetic pup, always on the go, go, go... I love all the toys and balls to play with here, and especially like wrestling with the 3 others dogs that live here too. My housebreaking is going very well; I figured out the doggie door on my 2nd day here, it was no problem for a super smart guy like me. I sleep all night in my crate, but when it's time for me to go out, I definitely will let you know by singing to you. So far I can sit, and go down, and I am working very hard on the wait command, but it's so hard when I'm so hungry. I do love to cuddle but more so when I'm tired. I am a sweet, loving boy who loves to be wooed and talked to. My foster mom thinks I would do best with an active person or family and another dog to keep me company would be great too. I will need a lot of exercise, several walks a day, to keep me fulfilled and happy. If you think I might be the right little pup for you, come and see me at PetSmart.
