ANIMAL RESCUE FOUNDATION (ARF) OF ALBERTA RECEIVES NEARLY $20,000 FROM PETSMART CHARITIES® OF CANADA TO HELP ALBERTA PETS FIND FOREVER HOMES

November 23, 2017— Calgary, Alberta – Today, the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) of Alberta announced their receipt of a new grant of $19,800 from PetSmart Charities of Canada, one of the leading funders of animal welfare in Canada. The grant is designed to help ARF secure and outfit a dedicated pet transport vehicle that will enable them to rescue and relocate pets so they can find forever homes.

ARF is committed to helping homeless pets find loving families and sometimes that means relocating them to an area where the demand for adoptable pets is very high. Rachael Finseth, ARF Cat Program Coordinator said, “We spend approximately three days a week visiting multiple communities, fostering relationships within them and rescuing cats and kittens. Most communities are over 100 km from the City of Calgary and until now, we have relied on our staff and volunteers’ personal vehicles to transport pets. With this grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada, we’ve secured a new dedicated vehicle that will allow us to take in multiple cats, litters of kittens, and feral animals at one time, transport them safely to a partner veterinary clinic, and then process them into our adoption program quickly.”

“At PetSmart Charities of Canada, we understand that helping pets often requires animal welfare agencies to travel to more rural and remote communities and then transport pets back to an urban centre where they can receive the care they need,” said Dani Mailing, regional relationship manager.  “That’s why we’re committed to supporting safe, effective and sustainable pet transport efforts through grants like one we recently made to the Animal Rescue Foundation of Alberta.”

Pet transport is one of PetSmart Charities of Canada’s ten new grant categories designed to provide year-round opportunities for animal welfare organizations and registered Canadian charities to apply for funding support. Funding from PetSmart Charities can help to cover the costs associated with pet transportation, veterinary and shelter care and vehicle maintenance and modifications. With the help of its animal welfare partners, since 1999, PetSmart Charities of Canada has helped more than 250,000 pets in need find forever homes.
