In early 2023, we said goodbye to our beloved Dexter at 17½ years old and in the months that followed, we opened our doors to foster dogs, each one welcomed with enthusiasm by our resident dog, Sarbee. Fostering became our way of healing, and Sarbee took her role as “temporary big sister” very seriously.
So when Tikka arrived in early December 2023 for what was supposed to be a simple weekend stay, we assumed it would be just like all the others. But Tikka had other plans. During her short stay in our home, it was clear she wasn’t going anywhere. She had already chosen us and we realized she was exactly where she was meant to be.
Tikka quickly won over Sarbee, and now every morning begins with Tikka greeting her big sister with kisses. The two of them spend their days playing, collecting sticks, going on bike rides, dips in the river, and adventuring with their dog friends. They’ve even started Barn Hunt classes together. Tikka, who already tracks every squirrel on her walks, is thrilled to get this close to a gerbil—her dream job, apparently!
Our home is once again full of joy, chaos, and love, thanks to more foster dogs and Tikka and Sarbee! We’re so grateful to ARF for the work they do and for bringing both these sweet girls into our lives.
P.S. Tikka’s mom is Athena, and she’s from a litter of twelve. If you have one of her siblings—she sends a big hello!
